3.6.4 Arranging Elements in a model

STEM has a number of facilities which enable you to manipulate the appearance of a model on-screen. One of these is the ability to move and rearrange elements using the standard Windows ‘click and drag’ technique. You can move elements individually or in groups of two or more, and you have the option of tidying an arrangement of icons using an optional grid – see 4.4.6 Moving elements.

Although the current POTS model is very simple, there will be times when a model may contain tens of elements that you will want to arrange and rearrange as the model develops.

To arrange elements to suit your purposes:

  1. Click on an element with the left mouse button and hold it down. The element is highlighted and a black arrow flashes against it.
  2. Drag the element to a new position in the model.
  3. Release the mouse button.

Notice that when you move the Function or Resource element, the red line rotates and extends to maintain the links between the elements. Any links between icons will automatically reposition themselves when icons are moved.

For further details of selecting and moving elements, see 4.4 Working with model elements, icons, links and text boxes.
