10.3.25 Resource deployment

Resources are installed according to the following procedure:

  1. to meet incremental demand, due to increases in Service demand and replacement of older Resources
  2. to satisfy any individual Resource utilisation constraints
  3. to satisfy any individual Resource deployment constraints
  4. to satisfy any Function deployment constraint
  5. to meet any further individual Resource planning consideration.
Result Description
Used Units The number of units of a Resource which are not wholly slack, which may be slightly more than apparently required to satisfy demand, due to distribution of capacity across different ages of the Resource.
Utilisation Units The additional units required to satisfy any maximum-utilisation or minimum slack-capacity constraint, beyond those required to satisfy basic demand.
Deployment Units The additional units of a Resource required to satisfy any deployment constraints, beyond those required to satisfy basic demand, and any utilisation constraint – see 10.3.18 Locations and deployment.
Planned Units The additional units of a Resource required to meet the minimum specified by the Planned Units input, beyond those required to satisfy basic demand and any utilisation and deployment constraints.
Required Units The number of units of a Resource required to satisfy demand and any maximum-utilisation or deployment constraints or planning considerations, i.e., the sum of Used Units, Utilisation Units, Deployment Units and Planned Units.
Redundant Units The number of installed units no longer required to satisfy demand, or any maximum-utilisation or deployment constraints, or planning considerations. These units may be removed from the network – see 10.3.24 Resource decommissioning.
Slack Units The number of units of a Resource which are wholly slack, but may be required to satisfy any maximum-utilisation or deployment constraints, or any further planning considerations.
Installed Units The number of units of Resources currently installed in the network, which is the sum of Required Units and Redundant Units, or Used Units and Slack Units.
