Inputs beginning with ‘S’

Saturation

The asymptotic value of the series, as time either increases or decreases, according to the relative sizes of Value A and Value B.

Default: 0.0.

Sequence Index

When borrowing sequentially from a number of facilities, this input determines the order in which they are used. Borrowing will only proceed to a higher-index facility (or group of facilities) when the first is fully subscribed.

Default: 0.

Service

The Service from which the ‘size’ of a Transformation Input is derived, in conjunction with the Basis.

Default: <none>.

Services

The set of Services associated with a Market Segment. Use the data-dialog Edit menu to insert or remove Services, or use drag-and-drop between the corresponding icons – see 4.11.2 Editing Service data for a Market Segment.

Default: none.

Sites (1)

The number of sites identified by a Location element which can define where a Resource is deployed.

Default: Constant {0.0}.

Sites (2)

The number of sites at which Resources are deployed, which can be defined directly as a time series, or as a reference to a separate Location or Transformation element.

Default: Location (<none>). No deployment constraint is applied.

Sites (3)

The number of sites (or links) across which traffic, and hence capacity, is distributed, which can be defined directly as a time series, or as a reference to a separate Location or Transformation element.

Default: Location (<none>). Demand is treated as one single bundle.

Size

The number of potential customers represented by a Market Segment element, which can be defined directly as a time series, or as a reference to a separate Transformation element.

Default: Constant {0.0}.

Start Date

The date at which the debt facility begins. This is used with the Term to define the fixed term of the debt facility.

Default: Y1.

Step (1)

Constrains the dynamics of any time-series input to yield a constant value for quarterly, annual or even indefinite periods.

Default: Day (no constraint is applied: values evolve smoothly).

Step (2)

A choice controlling how often STEM re-calculates cost-dependent tariffs when running with shorter time periods. By default, tariffs are only re-calculated annually.

Default: Year.

Steps

Controls the number of sets of intermediate sensitivity results that will be generated. With the default setting of 1, STEM varies the parameter with no intermediate steps (that is, calculates only one set of sensitivity results in each direction, up and down). However, if you want to examine the impact of the parameter in more detail, you can generate sets of results for several steps in each direction (up to a limit of 20 steps).

Note: changing the number of sensitivity steps to 2 does not double the maximum range. The number of steps is intended as a measure of detail, whereas the Up and Down values are intended as the overall limit independent of the number of steps.

See 9.4 Using sensitivities to identify critical model assumptions.

Default: 1.

Supply Ratio

The number of units of Resource capacity supplied per unit of Function capacity required by a particular Service or Transformation.

Default: 1.0.

Switched Off

A choice governing whether a service, resource, transformation or function is excluded from the model, in order to study the effect of its removal.

No: the element is included in the model.

Yes: the element is excluded from the model.

Default: No.
