7.2.1 Exporting a run-time model

Once you have built a model which you are ready to distribute to non-licensees, the D-STEM Editor provides a very straightforward process for creating a binary run-time copy of the model and the distributable software components:

  1. Select Create Run-Time Model… from the File menu in the Editor. The Export Run-Time Model dialog is displayed, with various options governing where the exported files should be created, what kind of modifications will be possible within the exported run-time model, and which distributable software components to generate.
  2. Select appropriate options as desired. The dialog displays an inventory of the files which will be generated, together with a note of required disk space.
  3. Click OK to start the process. Assuming the D-STEM dongle is present, the structure of the conventional model is ‘frozen’ into an authorised binary run-time model file; and in parallel, the selected distributable run-time software components are generated.

If the path of the original model was c:\stem\models\simple.dtl, then the default path for the exported run-time copy would be c:\stem\models\simple.run-time\simple.dtm. By default, both the run-time model and exported software components are stored in a sub-directory called simple.run-time within the directory containing the original model. You can enter, or click Browse to select, a different target directory if you prefer.

Also by default, once the export process is complete, STEM displays the exported files in Windows Explorer, facilitating the process of distributing these files. The exported run-time model is shown selected in the figure below.

Note: Any icon files (.ICO) used by the model to provide customised icons are also exported.
