4.5.1 Accessing data dialogs

The primary route to a data dialog for an element is from the corresponding icon menu:

  1. Double-click or right-click on the icon (or press <Enter>) to show the icon menu.
  2. Select the group of fields you wish to edit: those listed at the top of the menu are essential inputs, while those below the first line relate to more advanced features. The selected dialog is displayed.

The global data for a model is also accessed from a similar menu:

  • double-click or right-click on the background of a view, or
  • select Data from the main menu.

Note: If you select more than one icon you can access data dialogs for all of the selected elements.

Moving to related data dialogs

Certain inputs, especially time series, are governed by several parameters, which are summarised in a cell in data dialogs. In order to access these fields, which are nested in a separate dialog:

  • select the field by left-clicking with the mouse or using the arrow keys, and then either:
    • left-click on the small button that appears to the right, or
    • right-click to access a local context menu, from which you can select Details (or simply press <Enter>).

The Move menu has a number of common commands which allow you to access a related dialog:

Command Action
To… Displays a list of model elements. Choose from the list to access the top-level dialog for an element, a dialog with buttons corresponding to the icon menu items.
Next Moves to the corresponding dialog for the next model element of the same type.
Previous Moves to the corresponding dialog for the previous model element of the same type.
Up Moves back up to a dialog where the current dialog’s fields are shown as a button, or for a top-level element dialog, up to a list of all such elements.
To Top Moves to the top-level dialog for the whole model, a dialog with buttons corresponding to the Data menu items.

In addition, the Move menu includes all the same data items as the original icon menu. This means that you can move directly from, e.g., the Demand dialog for a Service to the Tariffs dialog, without having to return to the icon menu.

If you use these techniques to move between dialogs frequently, you may find it useful to select Close Dialog on Move from the Options menu. This will cause the previous dialog to be closed automatically when you move to another dialog.

Note: You can hold down the <Shift> key to temporarily override this option.
