5.8.3 Graph Layout

Selection of Layout… from the main Format menu or by right-clicking on a graph and selecting Layout… from the drop-down menu will take you to the Graph Layout dialog. Certain aspects of how a graph is drawn are controlled from this dialog:

  • the thickness of series lines
  • the relative overlap and spacing of bars/columns
  • whether to use proportional spacing for time-based charts.

The Graph Layout dialog controls line thickness and the relative spacing of bars/columns

Overlap of bars [%]: controls the overlap between bars in horizontal bar and column graphs. The default is Auto which means that there is an overlap of 0%. To change the setting, clear the check box and type a value in the text box.

Gap between bars [%]: controls the gap between bars in a graph. The default is Auto which is set at 20% and means that the gap between the columns or bars is 20% of the width of the columns themselves. To change the setting, clear the check box and type a value in the text box.

Auto and the two check boxes are greyed out when the options are unavailable, e.g., when Line or Squared Line graph types are selected.

Proportional spacing: see 5.5.2 Graphing shorter time period results.

Using the choices for Apply to present in every other similar dialog, the settings for a single graph (accessed from the Format menu) may be carried over optionally to other charts in the view or workspace, or to replace the current workspace and/or program defaults for future charts. Similarly, the settings for one or more charts in the view or workspace may be optionally reverted to the relevant workspace defaults (accessed from the Options menu).
