10. Calculation framework

This section explains all the modelling features and elements of STEM, and is cross-referenced with full, alphabetical lists of inputs and results, and illustrated with a library of interactive models.

Inputs

An alphabetical listing of STEM inputs, including a brief description and summary of influence, the default value/behaviour, the location in the STEM Editor, and a reference to the relevant feature(s)

Features

A chapter on each area of STEM calculations, including a brief description, lists of associated inputs and results, a detailed explanation of the calculations performed, examples and interactive models where appropriate, plus lists of related features

Results

An alphabetical listing of STEM results, including a brief description and simplified explanation of how the result is calculated, a list of the types of element for which the result is available, and a reference to the relevant feature(s)

Interactive models

Live versions of modelling examples and figures, each linked from the relevant feature (or specific example within a feature), and cross-linked back to the original location for ease of navigation

Structure of the Calculation framework section

For each input there is:

  • a brief description and summary of influence
  • the default value and behaviour
  • the location in the STEM Editor
  • a link to the relevant feature(s).

For each feature there is:

For each result there is:

  • a brief description and simplified explanation of how the result is calculated
  • a list of the types of element for which the result is available
  • a link to the relevant feature(s).

For each interactive model there is:

This structure is designed to make it easier to locate information relevant to a particular input or result, while maintaining an adequate picture of the way these inputs and results are related.
