6.1.3 Picture formats

When you use the procedures above to place a picture of a view or a graph on the clipboard, you can choose one of two possible formats for the image, as follows.

Picture

The Windows metafile format comprises a series of drawing instructions, which allows another application to re-create the image at different sizes and resolutions. This format is the more flexible and compact, but is subject to some variation in the way the image may appear on some display devices.

Bitmap

The device-independent bitmap format captures an image pixel by pixel, and thus can be rendered precisely at the original size. However, this format requires much more memory and the image will appear grainy and blotchy if it has to be re-sized.
