In order to install STEM, you must have a PC running Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows NT, and you must have at least 25MB of free disk space. Any machine that runs Windows will have no problem running STEM.
A colour monitor – preferably SVGA or better – is recommended. However, you can use STEM on a VGA or monochrome display, with a certain loss of flexibility and clarity.
A mouse (or other pointing device) is essential to get the most out of STEM. Although it is possible to use STEM just with the keyboard, there are many procedures which can be accomplished far more easily with a mouse.
In order to run models, you must also connect to the Internet once every 90 days in order to refresh the soft-licence key which authorises use of the software. This mechanism is designed to protect your investment and prevent the use of unauthorised copies of the STEM software.
Additional requirements
You can print from STEM using a printer connected either directly to your PC, or over a network.
STEM is designed to integrate with other applications, such as spreadsheet and word-processor packages, and especially Microsoft Excel – see 6. Exchanging data.
Specific requirements for eSTEM
The Enterprise STEM (eSTEM) server software has only been tested so far with IIS 7.5 on the Windows Server 2008 R2 platform (and Windows 7 during development), but we are confident that it should work on any reasonably recent Windows server platform as long as it runs the .NET framework v2.0 or better.
