8.7.1 Installing the common layers of the software stack

The figure Web-service software stack and hosted model folder structure shows that several components should be installed to work together:

  • the eSTEM web service
  • the eSTEM COM object layer
  • Conventional STEM (C-STEM).

At the time of writing, the latter two of these are packaged into a single, automated eSTEM installer. This can be downloaded from www.impliedlogic.com (subject to having a pre-registered account on our website so that we can assign suitable permissions) and then run as administrator on the target machine. It is necessary to request a soft licence for the server as you would for a conventional user machine, and to remember to refresh this once every ninety days.

The part that currently requires manual intervention is setting up the website to run eSTEM, which includes placing the code for the STEM web service and its support libraries in a suitable location.
