Sometimes it can be convenient to look for references to a particular link within a model, either for auditing purposes or perhaps as a check before removing a link.
Finding external links
In order to see which formulae in a model use a given external link:
- Select Links… from the File menu on the main Editor window. The External Links dialog is displayed.
- Select the particular file from the list of links.
- Select the First button under the heading References. STEM will display a data dialog showing the first field where a formula references this particular file.
- Select the Next button to move to the next field referencing this file, and so on.
When you reach the last formula which references this file, the focus will remain in the External Links dialog when you select the Next button.
Removing external links
If you wish to remove a link to an external file, e.g., in order to produce a self-contained model for a presentation:
-
Select Links… from the File menu on the main Editor window. The External Links dialog is displayed.
- Select the particular file from the list of links.
-
Select the Remove button to break the link. STEM will prompt for confirmation unless the external file is not referenced in any formulae. Any formulae with references to this file will be frozen, preserving the values most recently retrieved from the file – see 4.14.1 Freezing the result of a formula.
STEM automatically removes un-referenced external files when opening a model.
